HELP NEEDED
CVEA Block Party Saturday, June 10
Unfortunately, this year’s block party coordinator has had to step back due to health reasons and previous coordinators are not available either. Fortunately, planning is far enough along that we should still be able to have the Block Party this year. However, we do need more volunteers to continue all the regular block activities. Don’t worry if you haven’t volunteered before, there are plenty of people to help and explain. At a minimum, we need volunteers to:
— Collect money for the hot dog & hamburger donations.
— help out at the sign in table
— supervise a tot lot — this will be cancelled without volunteers; it is a good opportunity for some parents with young kids to join forces. We generally ask parents to bring big wheels or other kinds of entertainment but we do need someone to make sure it is supervised.
— let us know if you can bring tables, chairs, canopies (in case it is hot)
— Most of all we need someone to act as coordinator or co-coordinator in the future. Again, there is a lot of help from people who have been involved for years but we do need someone willing to act as general coordinator to make sure all the assigned tasks get done. If you enjoy the Block Party and wish it to continue please volunteer to help.

Neighborhood garage sale coordinator.
The CVEA Neighborhood Garage Sale is traditionally held in the spring, near the end of the SDSU semester (May 6-7 this year). Cliff Berkowitz who has organized this in the past is moving and therefore unable to continue. If you are willing to organize this year’s Garage Sale on that weekend or later in May, or you know someone who would, please contact CVEA President Gary Campbell (cveapresident@gmail.com). Priority is given to CVE residents, but if we don’t hear from a CVE neighbor in the next few days we are open to others willing to organize this popular event.

Meetings
The College View Estates Association (CVEA) meets quarterly at a member’s home. For meeting locations, email CVEApresident@gmail.com.

Several CVEA members also serve on the College Area Community Council and Planning Boards (CACC & CACPB), a city recognized board representing the larger College Area that meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the College-Rolando Library. For more information, go to http://collegearea.org/cacc/.

Block Party
Our annual Block Party, usually held in June, brings families and friends together for conversation and activities such as a chili cook-off, dessert bake-off, bounce house, climbing wall, tot lot, water balloon toss, grill for hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as music and prizes. The block party tradition began in 2000.

Progressive Dinner
Our annual autumn Progressive Dinner provides neighbors the opportunity to socialize with each other as a large group for the appetizer and dessert course, while the main course is enjoyed in more intimate groups in neighbors' homes. The Progressive Dinner celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2009.

First Friday
Permanent residents of the CVE community gather once a month (on the First Friday of each month). The social gathering is informal and focuses on community and friendship, rather than food. For information about the First Friday location please email nancyksd@cox.net

Tree Planting
The Beautification Committee assists neighbors with selecting and planting trees in their parkways. Over 150 new parkway trees have been planted in CVEA.

Donations
CVEA regularly makes donations to community organizations such as local schools, libraries, the San Diego Police Department Foundation and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Patrol (RSVP).

Home Tours
College View Estates has been recognized for its beautiful and interesting homes by being featured on home tours in 2003, 2006, and 2011. The annual College Area Home Tours are organized by the College Neighborhoods Foundation.

Garage Sale
From time to time CVEA helps organize a community-wide garage sale.
